about

A nice acoustic campfire groove anchors this tale of a journey - down a northern river, or through life itself. Written while rafting on the mighty Nahanni River in Canada's Northwest Territories, the song "feels" the challenges and cameraderie of isolated travel through the north's wide open spaces.

lyrics

<Chorus>
Oh Nahanni / I fell in love before I ever met you
Oh Nahanni / You gave me the key to a life of adventure
Oh Nahanni / You and me together it’s the story of our time

<Verse 1>
Created out from nothing and oh so far away
Starting out was easy; it was almost child’s play
Almost imperceptibly, beginning to move faster
We had to make a choice or risk ending in disaster

<Chorus>
<Verse 2>
There was a stretch we faced; the going it got rough
Temptation’s always there to say out loud “I’ve had enough”
But even as the weather tried to push us to the brink
Deciding not to swim meant we knew we couldn’t sink

<Chorus>
<Verse 3>
And then the world opened up; we finally had the time
To drift along, relaxing, as we drew a curving line
We met our share of obstacles we had to skirt around
But we proved that we could do it and we made it safe and sound

<Bridge>
Sometimes running hot / Sometimes running cold
Always running wild / We’re never getting old
It could be chaotic / Or gentle flat and calm
It reflects the path we’ve chosen and / We have to move along

<Instrumental)>

<Verse 4>
And now the time has come to bring our story to a close
To reflect on what we’ve learned and maybe strike a vict’ry pose
We’ll never be this way again / It’s in the mem’ry bank
We’ll be laughing, looking back at that time we almost sank

<Chorus> + repeat You and me together it’s the story of our time
